How to Prevent People in the Hospital
By: Skylar T.

There are some imprudent people that don’t wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. They probably don’t think that anything bad will happen. But it could happen. Even if you are just going across the street, you could fall and seriously hurt yourself. You could break your arm and get a cast for a long time, or even get hurt worse. You could crack your head open a maybe even be paralyzed after that incident. All head injuries make up 25% of emergency rooms from bad bike accidents. Here are some reasons why I think everyone, of all ages, form the time they learn to ride a bike and so on, should wear a bicycle helmet.
The first reason is that it keeps you safe. Over 120 people die every year form not wearing a helmet. That is very fatal. We could take at least 50 of those people out of there and only if more people wore helmets. There are some people who flip over bikes and hurt their heads. And there are some people that flip of their bikes and hit a pole, or hit their head on a curb. My brother was going to his friend’s house, and he flipped over his handlebars. He got very lucky and only got a few scrapes and bruises. I’m very surprised that he didn’t get more hurt, because the bike he was riding broke in half! That was scary. If anything worse had happened he could have had a chance in dieing. That would be horrific.
The second reason I think everyone should wear a helmet, is because they are very low in cost, but high with a chance of saving your life. Most kids don’t wear them because they don’t think it’s cool to not. Mainly teens and preteens don’t because of this reason. But it won’t be so cool if you are in the emergency room, or even if you are dead. If that kid had just been un-cool for the time he was riding his bike, he could have lived. And he could have stayed with all of his friends.
The last reason I think that should is that you could stay a live if you are wearing one. But you might not. Some people are wearing helmets that say, they are high quality, but they might not be. There are more people that die every year, than people do from not wearing one. About 1060 people die from wearing tawdry helmets. I think that people do die more with a helmet because they think they can bike crazily because they have a helmet on their head. Stores should make better helmets. It’s terrible how people are dieing more from wearing a helmet.
About 75% of all bikers die from head injuries. I hope these reasons encourage you to wear a helmet at all times you are riding a bike. Don’t be one of the 120 people that die every year, be the one who is smart and takes only 10 minutes out of your life to run to the store and grab a helmet for a cheap price. And if you are an owner of a store, I hope I showed you that even though your helmets might be high quality to you, they might not be for someone that died from your product. Please make them more useful for all bikers. These are the reasons I think everyone should wear a helmet at all times no matter how cool, popular, daring, or intrepid you want to be, you should try not when riding a bike, because it could save your life.
